Newsletter Februray, 11, 2022: Snow and Ashes MKAL

Snow and Ashes MKAL

Droughtlander is finally coming to an end! With the return of Jamie and Claire this March, I just had to do a traditional MKAL (mystery knit-a-long), and I am so excited to be using yarn specially dyed by Madelinetosh for Jimmy Beans Wool! This season, I was inspired by Marsali and Fergus; they are my favorite characters in the series, but I think they are a little underrated sometimes. So, I decided they would be my inspiration for the yarn colors and shawl pattern for this MKAL! Last season, Marsali wore a gorgeous purple dress, and those colors inspired the three colors that were dyed by Madelinetosh on the Tosh Merino Light Base.

The Snow and Ashes MKAL is a shawl and the pattern will be released in a series of clues beginning March 6th. It requires 3 colors of fingering weight yarn, in subtly contrasting colors. Grab a kit from JBW in the gorgeous Madelinetosh colors here! The patterning includes stripes, slipped stitches, and mosaic colorwork. Only one color is worked per row, and it is suitable for intermediate/adventurous beginners. I can’t wait for you all to join us on March 6th!

I’ll admit, I’ve been struggling with knitting mojo lately - does anyone else ever experience this? Anyway, I’ve finally got a couple really exciting projects on the needles that that I can’t wait to share over the next couple months. Here’s a sneak peak of one of them. That cable on the edge is everything!!! 🤩

Rōdster Adventures

We have spent the winter bumming around Arizona, enjoying the warm(ish…those nights can get cold!!) weather, cactuses and big blue skies! Follow us on Instagram for more about our adventures!

Newsletter May 28, 2021: 🎶 Watermelon Sugar Cowl/Shoulder Cozy - New Pattern Alert!

Watermelon Sugar

Introducing Watermelon Sugar, pattern No.15 in the 20in20 collection!

While designing the Watermelon Sugar cowl/shoulder cozy, I basically had the song “Watermelon Sugar” by Harry Styles playing on repeat. At the time, I had just discovered that song, and I fell in love with it! For me, it was the perfect summer song, and so is this versatile, one skein cowl. The simple lace patterning is easy to memorize, and the applied border at the bottom finishes the piece off beautifully!

A series of gentle increases gives this cowl an “A” line shape that allows you to wear it as a cowl or a shoulder cozy! This has become my go to piece for throwing on over a summer dress or tank, to keep the chill of evening (or A/C!) at bay!

Serriform Shawl Yarn: Star Spangled Sally Ride

A couple folks have asked if I still have any of the "Star Spangled Sally Ride" color that I used for the Serriform Shawl available, and it turns out, I do! I found a few skeins that I neglected to add to my Etsy Shop, and those are now available! UPDATE: This color is sold out but I am always adding new things to the shop, so hopefully you can find something else that strikes you fancy!

Something Old, Something New

Next week, on June 1st, keep your eyes open for another pattern reveal.

I have an update to an old pattern, plus a matching new pattern coming out, and I couldn't be more excited to share them with you all!! Here's a sneak peek of the old pattern that's getting a face lift!! Can you guess what it is?

Rodster Adventures

My husband and I have some archaeology work to do back in Nevada this summer, so we have been road tripping across the country to get there in time to start in June! This lovely spot was the Fireside Winery in Iowa that allowed us to park overnight! And the wine was delicious too :)

Thanks for joining me and see ya next time! ~Rachel

Newsletter April 9, 2021: Monolith Hat and Cowl - It's a Double Feature!

Monolith Hat and Cowl

Introducing the Monolith Hat and Cowl, pattern Nos. 13 & 14 in the 20in20 collection!

The Monolith Hat and Cowl use stranded color work to create vertical bars on a background of garter stitch, which makes them really pop! This pattern is perfectly suited to two high contrast colors. One skein of each color is enough to complete both accessories. Swap the main and contrast colors for the second project, and you will have a piece that coordinates, but isn’t too matchy-matchy.

Buy both patterns and get the second pattern 50% off. No need for a coupon, just add to your cart on Ravelry!

This worsted weight accessory is quick to knit and will keep you warm and cozy on cool spring nights. It also makes a great quick gift! Opal from Apple Fibers is an absolute squishy delight to work with, and I highly recommend it for this project!

I'm currently using Ra-Ra Rafia by Wool and the Gang, and so far it is definitely a love/hate relationship. I am designing a bag, and the structure of the paper yarn is absolutely perfect for it. However, it rubs my fingers raw and I can only work on it an hour or so at a time, before I need a break. I think the final product will be worth it though!

A Postcard for you!

Chichen Itza Mexico.jpg

My husband and I had to cancel a vacation to Cancun that was scheduled during the beginning of the pandemic, last year. The credits were expiring soon, and having been recently vaccinated, we decided to use those credits in a last minute trip!

That's it for this update! Thanks again, and see ya next time, friends! ~Rachel
